Stated that ‘no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance…” (Ravitch, 1983, p. 295). People Involved: Congresswoman Edith Green of Oregon had opened hearings on discrimination the basis of sex in 1970. Comments: As a result of Title IX, “many institutions were sued by female faculty members and compelled to award them back pay, salary adjustments, and promotions” (Ravitch, 1983, p. 297).
