“Myers asserted that it was not ‘a discrete concept but rather a collection of best existing practice’… Why is it difficult for so many American educators to acknowledge that writing a sentence, speaking clearly, playing the piano, or learning ingerential statistics, is simply difficult work?’” (Ravitch, 1983, p. 255).

People Involved:
Donald A. Myers

Comments:
Beginning around 1974, a backlash movement emphasized a “back to basics” approach and blamed the open education movement for lowering standards for education.
